“The heart of man is very much like the sea: it has it's storms, it has it's tides, and in it's depths, it has it's pearls too."

- Vincent van Gogh

CINQUE TERRE

Day 10

We got up early the next morning and decided to take the train between villages to Vernazza.  Once we were there, we went to the waterfront and saw the beautiful St. Margherita's church.

Over the course of the past few days, I had made a few new friends in the group, so for my afternoon free time in Cinque Terre I opted to embark on a hike to Vernazza with my new friend, Ed.  I'm so glad I found someone who wanted to do the same thing I did - I was afraid I would have to go alone!  While the others went to the beach, Ed and I went on a hike through the villages.
The weather slowly crept into the mid-90's while we made a 2-hour hike through the town of Monterosso and on to Vernazza, as recommended by Rick's guide book.  By the end of the hike, I was almost wishing I had gone to the beach so that I could have cooled off a bit!
