"Oh, I love London Society! ... Just what Society should be."

- Oscar Wilde

LONDON

Day 2

We took the London Underground, more commonly known as The Tube, to the Tower of London, which is England's oldest castle, fortress, and prison.
At the Tower, you will meet Yeoman Warders, also known as the Beefeaters, giving tours every 30 minutes.  The tours are well worth your time because you will learn all the ins and outs of the castle, in just one walk with them.
Sculptures of exotic animals known only as "The Royal Beasts" are one of the first things you will see upon entering the fortress.  In the Bloody Tower, you will learn about the two princes who were murdered by their jealous uncle.  The White Tower houses armor from Henry VIII's reign.  The Crown jewels, which are still used in Royal ceremonies, were exhibited, however, we were prohibited from taking pictures of them.
English superstition says that as long as Ravens are present, England will not fall.  We saw them all over London, so they must be doing well (even after Brexit).  But be careful - they may bite!
Don't worry - we found London Bridge, and it's not falling down!
The boat ride on the Thames river showed us all of London so that we could plan our free afternoon.  After the boat ride, we walked to Buckingham Palace and crossed a very dangerous roundabout that I wouldn't recommend.  Pay attention to the pedestrian signs!
My daughter Madeline, a competitive swimmer, watched the 2012 Olympics with stars in her eyes.
It was only fitting that she swim at the Olympic pool where the greats did!  At Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, she was able to get a great workout, even while on vacation.  Her cheering squad consisted not only of me, but also included two people that had never seen her swim, her Aunt Sharon and cousin Natalie.
On a quest for food, we stopped for fish and chips at Seashell of Lisson Grove.  This restaurant came highly recommended by every cab driver we had!
