"Through these old streets I wander dreamily; around me Florence sweeps her busy tide of life."

FLORENCE

Day 11

Onward to Florence!  Since we were passing through the area, we made a pit stop in Pisa where we ate lunch at a little street side restaurant. Like EVERYWHERE in Italy, our food was "Molto Bene" (very good).
Arriving In Florence, we said "ciao" to our beloved bus driver, Hilde, who had become part of our little band of travelers.  She was the BEST in all of Europe!
PISA

We had a short walk from the bus to our hotel which required us to carry our own luggage (which is why you pack light!).  There, we were welcomed to the Hotel California, (such a lovely place).  The front desk gave each of us unique keys which had to be turned in whenever you left the hotel, so that you didn't have to carry them.  Our terrace afforded us an impressive view of the Duomo!  The inside of our room was just as magnificent as our view from the terrace.  The walls and ceilings were decorated like a museum!  We freshened up and went to meet our Renaissance walking tour guide for our neighborhood walk and introduction to Florence.
Our neighborhood walk highlighted the historical Renaissance.  We saw Brunelleschi's cathedral dome and the
3-D Baptistery doors of the Duomo.  We walked across the Ponte Vecchio bridge, which is the oldest bridge spanning the Arno river.   The walk was very informational and gave us several options for filling our free time.
