PARIS

Day 4

This day was like being in a movie of Paris starring my family and me!  We went on a walking tour of Paris, visited Notre-Dame, strolled through the Latin Quarter, and saw all of Paris from the top of the Eiffel Tower.
During our walk through several Paris neighborhoods, we encountered gargoyles, a few castles, and some cool statues!
Notre Dame Cathedral (meaning 'Our Lady of Paris' in French) is a massive Gothic cathedral built in the 12th century. It sits on an island known as Ile de la Cite.  We ended up here after our morning tour and were able to go inside to tour on our own.  Right outside of the cathedral is Point Zero, the very center of France which is the point from where all distances are measured.
While some of our group went to learn how to play a french game called Pentaque, we chose to visit the famous Shakespeare and Company Bookstore, directly across from Notre Dame over the River Seine.  The bookstore has been around since the medieval times and was frequented by Hemingway, George Bernard Shaw and Gertrude Stein.  I just wanted to sit in the same place that those famous authors sat!
We stopped for crepes and cafe'au lait next door before heading off to our next adventure.
We enjoyed some free time that afternoon, so we visited the Eiffel Tower.  Sharon was the only one who didn't go up to the very top because she is afraid of heights and opted to enjoy a crepe on a park bench instead.  Madeline jumped for joy in seeing the Eiffel Tower in person!
